Started by C5Engineer2 Dec Posted 2 Dec Came across this article today and thought it was worth sharing. Doesn't apply too much to the Avid Community but I know a lot of us have other projects. I flew for over 10 years behind a and I agree it was probably the most reliable carefree motor they ever made. Fits nicely in as a replacement. Posted 3 Dec Rotax is manufacturing another small motor currently in the sleds that I and many other guys i know think could show promise.
The Ace 4-stroke motor. Very light weight and a favorable power and especially torque curve. That new Ski-doo engine looks sweet!! How could this be fitted to our application. I would like to have the model in my Zenith Posted 4 Dec edited. I hear that there is a guy in Alaska working up an Artic Cat something engine with redrive - if he can get it going, it may be a high-horsepower winner for the 2-stroke drivers.
It should get your off the ground quickly! Posted 4 Dec Posted 5 Dec They didn't want to fly 'unsafe' ultralights and couldn't afford Private Pilot and the associated certified spam cans. Sorry, Mark I don't buy that SP knocked more people out of aviation than it brought in. It brought me back into flying. The airport was full of activity and there was someone to fly with almost any time of the year.
The airport was very alive and vibrant. When the SP rule was passed only a couple of the folks flying the fat ultralights went on to get their SP cert. The rest stopped flying. There is much less going on. I think it is sad. I don't know what to blame it on other than overregulation. Posted 5 Dec edited. Also keep in mind that since the LS became available our country's economy has gone down the schmidt chute thanks to the abominable lack of leadership in the White House.
This has more than a little to do with slowdowns at our little airports. I'm sorry to hear of the fat ultralight crowd to scared or whatever to follow up and regain legality.Discussion in ' Maintenance Bay ' started by jnmeadeApr 17, Log in or Sign up.How to remove encryption ransomware
Pilots of America. Is 2 cycle oil such as used in Rotax mixed by volume or weight? References, please. I've looked all around the internet and not found a definitive statement by an oil or engine manufacture.V05726ap88
Lot's of implications and inferences but no definitive reference. No doubt, many mix it by a bottle of this and a jug of that. Which implies volume. But I'm looking for the oil or engine companies specific spec on how it's mixed.
I thought the had an oil injection pump, negating the need to pre-mix it? FWIW, my chain-saw manual specifies the mix ratio using volume. GRG55Apr 17, I've never seen a 2 stroke mixture that wasn't done by volume. Oil injection is an option for the 's. The "base" engine doesn't have it and requires the oil to be pre-mixed with the fuel. What are you flying, chainsaws???
GlennAB1Apr 17, Rotax knows full well pilots don't carry around scales to measure their 2-stroke mix. And for their engines that have oil injection pumps, they work on volume, too. DanaApr 17, I appreciate the links, very useful. The manual talks about volume when it comes to the gasoline, but doesn't talk about volume in addressing the oil. I'll accept it is inferred.
I like you reference to the measuring cup. That is handy as I have some good oil in larger than the usual small doses. I think it's pretty funny when guys flying behind motors made by sewing machine company dis Rotax as a snowmobile engine. Geoffrey ThorpeApr 18, Art VanDelay likes this. I like my Rotax snow machine engines. I wonder when the aircraft engines will adopt E-Tec technology. With low-operating costs, leading class power to weight ratio, well known reliability, it is no surprise that Rotax aircraft engines are the first choice of more than aircraft manufacturers worldwide.

Can be installed with minimal selection of metric sockets and Allen wrenches to any provision 8 crankcase engine. To determine the ratio you currently are using simply count the number of teeth on both gears and divide the large gear by the small gear. This box is commonly used on Rotax, and motors. If in doubt about the prop you wish to swing on this box refer to Part 31 Measuring Prop Inertia for more information.
All gearboxes are shipped in separate carton for installation by the customer and are never installed on new engines.
All gearboxes come with complete installation instructions. Total weight of the C gearbox is Note: the large diameter on each side is for inspection of the rubber hardy disk. This hole is left open. If you are replacing an existing gear box, inspect the PTO end of your engine to see the crankcase type you are trying to fit. Older engines may have provision 4 or no provision to mount the gear box See the parts section for mounting of older gearboxes.
All provision 4 gearboxes are still available, but require a declaration to be filed out and notarized. See rear of catalog for declaration form. Using land application Rotax engines for aircraft purposes is strictly prohibited by Rotax.
The declaration is designed to prevent this practice. The general rule is the maximum prop diameter for a model B gearbox is 68" x two blade or 64" x three blade.
Anything larger and the engine will not idle smoothly below rpm or will be difficult to start. For more on the effects of prop inertia see Part 31 Measuring Prop Inertia located in the rear of this catalog. With the model B gearbox the most popular gear ratio is 2.
Ratios of 2. This box is always used on Rotax, and engines 50 horsepower or less. If you are not sure what reduction ratio your box is simple count the number of teeth on each gear and divide the big gear by the small gear to get the ratio. This formula works on any gearbox. The gear ratio is stamped on the cover at the factory. Even though the ratio is stamped, that does not mean the gears have not been changed. If you're unsure the only way to know for sure is to count the gear teeth and do the math.
